Since our inception in 1995 we have focused on contributing to the evolution of innovative model for the scientific & productive management of waste. We continually exploit new methods to improve the quality of life of urban poor communities. We work to build linkages between direct experiences of communities and the larger contexts of cities, states and countries.
With a will to make a difference, a small team of dedicated and experienced professionals from different walks of life, came together to incorporate the Centre for Development Communication. They pooled in the initial operational costs and had a dream to develop a long lasting venture. With determination and an indomitable will to succeed, they started CDC’s waste management campaign from Bapu Nagar area in Jaipur.
Our first project outside Rajasthan was in Bhopal in 1998. Since then, we have come a long way to and worked on projects in 26 different municipalities. To highlight the diversity, we have worked in- Nagpur, Shimla, Daman, Gwalior, Allahabad, Mahindra SEZ (Chennai), Baddi Industrial Area, IIT-Kanpur, and Nanded.
For our diverse socio-economic efforts in managing waste all across India, we were awarded with the UN HABITAT Scroll of Honor Award in 2004. Additionally, our Swachchta Doot Aaple Daari project was selected as the best practice by the UN-HABITAT and the Dubai Municipality in 2006 & 2008. We have also been recognized with the ECOSOC consultative status at the United Nations. Our Trustee Secretary, Dr. Vivek S Agrawal is the Chairman for the Special Technical Committee on Collection and Transportation Technologies at ISWA.
